University of Alabama Surpasses 40,000 Enrollment, Sets Record for In-State Students

For the first time in its history, the University of Alabama has exceeded 40,000 students, with a record-breaking number of in-state freshmen. The Fall 2024 total enrollment stands at 40,846, including 3,434 freshmen from Alabama, the highest number of in-state freshmen to date. This represents a 7.9% increase, marking the sixth consecutive year of growth in in-state student enrollment.

 

UA President Dr. Stuart R. Bell highlighted the appeal of the university, noting the strength of its faculty, expanding research opportunities, and exceptional facilities that attract students.

 

The university also saw overall student growth rise by 4.7%, with a second-year retention rate hitting a record 90%. Graduate school enrollment grew by 5.4%, including an 8.3% increase in in-state graduate students.

 

Additionally, UA reached a milestone with 10,111 minority students enrolled, an 8.3% increase from 2023. Students from all 67 Alabama counties, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 95 countries are represented.
