The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees has named Sid J. Trant as chancellor following a 10-month tenure as interim chancellor.

In his role as the UA System’s chief executive officer, Trant will lead a diverse enterprise encompassing three major public research institutions—the University of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Alabama in Huntsville—along with the UAB Health System.

“Sid Trant has demonstrated outstanding leadership, advancing the University of Alabama System’s mission while strengthening its foundation for the future,” said Trustee Karen P. Brooks, who chaired the chancellor search. “His deep understanding of the UA System, combined with his experience and dedication to higher education and health care, makes him uniquely suited to guide the system forward. He is a proven and trusted leader who will ensure continued growth and success.”
A commitment to excellence and continued growth
During his time as interim chancellor, Trant played a key role in major initiatives, including the acquisition of Ascension St. Vincent’s Health System in Central Alabama.
