A new athletics facility is on its way to north Huntsville. Rocket City Tumbling Academy (RCTA) will open in early 2026 at the former Walmart Neighborhood Market on Oakwood Avenue, offering gymnastics, tumbling, and martial arts programs for local families.
A New Chapter After Matrix Gym
The concept for RCTA follows the model of the Matrix Gym, which closed earlier this year. The new academy will occupy part of the Oakwood Avenue building at 4226 NW Oakwood Ave., with additional space still available for lease. Crunkleton Commercial Real Estate Group brokered the deal on behalf of the landlord.
Leadership with Local Roots
Rocket City Tumbling Academy was founded by Andrea Bonilla and her husband, Jason, who previously taught at Matrix Gym and currently operate East Coast Karate. Their martial arts program is already running this fall and will transition into the new facility. Bonilla said they plan to hold a soft launch with former Matrix families before opening to the public in early 2026.
“We chose the word ‘academy’ intentionally,” Bonilla explained, in a report. “Our goal is to create a structured, supportive environment where kids can build strong tumbling skills that carry into dance, cheer, martial arts or acrobatics. Our martial arts program also emphasizes life skills like focus, respect and perseverance.”
Programs and Community Offerings
The new academy will feature tumbling classes organized by skill level, alongside East Coast Karate instruction. In addition, the space will host open gyms, seasonal camps, birthday parties, and parents’ night out events. Bonilla also noted that future workshops are being considered as part of RCTA’s community-focused programming.
