Defense and aerospace giant Raytheon Co. has secured a new $77.2 million U.S. Department of Defense contract that will bring long-term, high-tech work to Huntsville over the next six years.
Supporting critical navigation systems
The multi-year contract supports the production, repair, and sustainment of Miniaturized Airborne Global Positioning System Receivers (MAGR). These navigation systems are essential for military aircraft operations and include the advanced MAGR-2K and 2K-M models.
The agreement also includes engineering services to ensure continued development and system reliability, underscoring the technology’s strategic importance.
Huntsville to play key role through 2031
Work on the contract will be shared between Raytheon’s facilities in El Segundo, California, and Huntsville, Alabama. Completion is expected by June 30, 2031, reinforcing Huntsville’s reputation as a hub for aerospace and defense innovation.
The contract structure also allows for future flexibility, as it opens opportunities for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to allied nations, potentially expanding its international reach.
Strengthening North Alabama’s defense industry
Managed by the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia, the contract was awarded as a sole-source acquisition. Although no funding was obligated at the time of award, the agreement allows incremental financing as tasks are initiated.
For the Huntsville region—already home to numerous federal contractors and military installations—this new project represents another strategic investment in the local economy and workforce.
