Police department launches Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy

The Huntsville Police Department is now accepting applications for its Spring 2026 Citizens Police Academy.

What Participants Will Experience

First, the Citizens Police Academy offers a hands-on way to learn how local law enforcement operates. Participants explore HPD’s structure, policies, and daily responsibilities through interactive classes and live demonstrations. In addition, the program encourages open dialogue and helps build stronger relationships between residents and officers.

HPD Chief Kirk Giles said the academy gives residents a rare opportunity to see police work up close. He added that trust and teamwork play a key role in keeping Huntsville safe.

When and Where Classes Take Place

Classes will take place weekly at the Huntsville Public Safety Training Academy, located at 5365 Triana Blvd. The nine-week program runs from March 24 through May 26. Moreover, sessions will meet every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., making it easier for working adults to attend.

Who Can Apply and Important Deadlines

To qualify, applicants must be at least 19 years old and live or work in Huntsville. Additionally, all participants must pass a background check and have no felony convictions, outstanding warrants, or pending criminal cases.

Finally, the deadline to apply is Friday, February 6. Interested residents can find more details and submit an application through the Huntsville Police Department.
