ToggleFinancial challenges and bankruptcy
Party City has faced ongoing financial difficulties, filing for bankruptcy in January 2023, which led to store closures as part of a restructuring effort. Although the company emerged from bankruptcy in September 2023, it struggled to recover financially. Competition from online retailers like Amazon and seasonal stores such as Spirit Halloween—now expanding into Christmas products—added to its challenges.
Party City’s legacy in the industry
With 850 outlets across the U.S., Party City remains North America’s largest party supply retailer. The company’s website reflected on its history: “We’ve been in business for over 30 years, growing from a single location to a national chain with stores in most states. Our superstores are one-stop shops for party supplies from A to Z, many exclusive to Party City.”
