New Subway now available in Athens

A new Subway restaurant has officially opened in Athens, Alabama. The location at 22083 US 72, Suite S, is now serving made-to-order sandwiches, salads, and more to the local community.

A Slice of Subway History

Subway’s story began over 50 years ago when college freshman Fred DeLuca partnered with nuclear physicist Dr. Peter Buck. Buck suggested opening a sandwich shop to help DeLuca pay for college and provided a $1,000 initial investment. Their first shop opened in Bridgeport, Connecticut, serving fresh and affordable submarine sandwiches.

The brand’s founding principles, offering exceptional service, high-quality menu items at fair prices, and constantly improving operations, continue to guide Subway restaurants worldwide.

Subway’s Growth and Global Reach

By 1974, DeLuca and Buck owned 16 shops and began franchising to expand the brand. Today, Subway is the world’s largest submarine sandwich chain, with more than 44,000 locations globally. The Athens location continues the tradition of providing quick, nutritious meals for families and individuals alike.
