They say April showers bring May flowers. That’s proving true for the floral industry this season, especially for one Huntsville-based business that’s seeing increased demand.
New studio opens in Huntsville
Native Petals Design Studio, located in front of The Lumberyard, officially opened on April 24. The new space gives owner Taylor Sweat the opportunity to expand her floral services, including custom arrangements for weddings and large-scale events. The location holds personal significance for Sweat, who got married at the site in 2017 before the original venue closed in 2019.
From diving to design
Sweat’s path to floristry is unconventional. A certified diver since childhood, she previously worked in underwater astronaut training at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. In 2020, seeking a career change due to the physical demands of diving, she transitioned to flower farming. That move sparked a growing passion for floral design and eventually led to the launch of her business.
Expanding services and community engagement
With the new studio, Sweat plans to introduce workshops beginning in July to teach floral design and connect with the local community. Known for her organic, garden-inspired arrangements, she describes her style as “whimsical, wild, and fresh-picked.” The business continues to focus on personalized floral services for events while building a creative space for both clients and aspiring floral designers.
Sweat emphasizes that her work in floristry allows her to express her creativity daily. “There’s always something fresh to learn, always a new challenge,” she said.
