The Madison County Health Department released its latest round of food and lodging inspection scores, covering establishments checked from Sept. 22–26, 2025, according to WAAY 31 ABC.
High Scores and Perfect Ratings
The inspections, scored on a 100-point scale, evaluate food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene practices. Nine locations earned perfect scores, including McDonald’s on Highway 72 in Madison, Beverly Ann’s Cookies of North Madison, and Huntsville’s Mad Malts Brewing.
Many others landed in the mid-90s, such as Texas Roadhouse in Huntsville (94), Taziki’s Mediterranean Café in Madison (98), and Big Whiskey’s in Madison (99). Overall, the majority of Madison County establishments demonstrated strong compliance with health and safety standards.
A Few Lower Scores
However, some restaurants received lower marks. Among them were Texaco on Ryland Pike in Huntsville (76), Bubby’s Diner on Whitesburg Drive (80), and Johnny Gryll’s in Harvest (80). These scores triggered follow-up inspections or corrective actions to resolve issues.
Critical Violations Noted
Inspectors documented several critical violations. For instance, Johnny Gryll’s had rodent droppings and decaying cucumbers, while Bubby’s Diner had temperature violations and damaged utensils. Other infractions included handwashing sinks without soap, blocked sinks, and food storage problems. Many issues were corrected on-site or during reinspection.
Despite these isolated problems, the majority of establishments in Huntsville, Madison, and surrounding areas maintained strong food safety performance, according to the report.
