Land Trust expands efforts to protect Huntsville’s natural beauty

The Land Trust of North Alabama is advancing a two-decade-long project to create a continuous trail from the Tennessee River to Blevins Gap.

Progress on the River-to-Gap Trail

The newest section of the trail has been built in South Huntsville on Riverview Drive. The Land Trust acquired the property recently as part of its ongoing river-to-gap vision. Most of the land for the trail has been secured, but a 65-acre plot near Green Mountain Road is still needed to complete the connection.

Community Support and Donations

Executive Director Marie Bostick emphasized the importance of balancing city growth with preservation of Huntsville’s natural beauty. Recent donations have helped fund the purchase of the remaining 65-acre parcel, bringing the project closer to completion.

Upcoming Events

The Land Trust is hosting community events to support land conservation. On Friday, October 24, there will be an outdoor movie night at Three Caves Quarry. Gates open at 6 p.m. for a showing of Beetlejuice. Tickets are $5 for guests under 18, $15 for members, and $20 for non-members. Furloughed government employees can attend for free, thanks to a sponsor. Staff members encourage the community to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature through these events.
