Rumors of furniture giant IKEA coming to Alabama have been circulating for nearly a decade, and according to online reports, those rumors are finally coming true.
IKEA Confirms Lease at University Place Shopping Center
This week, IKEA has leased a space at the University Place Shopping Center, according to the leasing firm Colliers International. A representative from Colliers also confirmed that the Huntsville location will be a smaller version of a typical IKEA store.
Store Size and Layout
The Huntsville space covers just over 46,000 square feet, while standard IKEA stores typically range from 275,000 to 350,000 square feet. Despite the smaller footprint, the store will offer a wide variety of products and experiences.
What Shoppers Can Expect
Located at 6125 University Dr NW, Huntsville, AL 35806, the new IKEA will feature:
5,000 products displayed in fully furnished room setups, including more than 2,000 items available for immediate purchase
Additional products available online with free pickup at the Huntsville store
An “As-Is Department” offering gently used products, discontinued items, and budget-friendly furnishings
An on-site restaurant serving the iconic IKEA meatballs
According to online reports, the Huntsville IKEA is expected to open by spring of 2026.
