ToggleNew classrooms and facilities coming
The Huntsville Planning Commission approved a 21,228-square-foot addition to the school. McNair sits east of Pulaski Pike and south of Winchester Road. The expansion will include eight classrooms—four on each floor—restrooms, a new media center, and a band room. Architects from Chapman Sisson confirmed that existing parts of the building will also see updates.
School transition and cafeteria changes
Huntsville City Schools is investing $600 million in a 10-year capital plan. As part of that effort, McNair will become McNair Middle School, serving grades six through eight. Classrooms will grow to fit the new grade level. The cafeteria will expand into the current media center, and the school will add a new concession area near the gym.
Columbia High School will also expand its cafeteria. The school will add 1,119 square feet to increase dining capacity from 240 to 328 students. This addition replaces an underused outdoor seating area and will include two new exits.
