According to a hospital statement, the Alabama Certificate of Need Review Board, which evaluates hospital expansions to prevent service duplication, unanimously approved the project on Wednesday.

“This expansion allows us to reduce Emergency Department wait times and marks a significant milestone – eliminating double occupancy rooms at Huntsville Hospital,” said CEO Jeff Samz. “No one prefers sharing a hospital room, and this project will finally end that.”
The expansion includes 50 additional patient beds, raising the flagship Madison Street Tower’s capacity to 931 beds, and converting 70 shared rooms into private ones.
Boosting regional healthcare capacity
In July, Samz announced plans to add five floors above the emergency department, a move set to create 350 new jobs.
“By expanding the Madison Street Tower, we’ll address the advanced healthcare needs of North Alabama and southern Tennessee for years to come,” Samz said. “With the state’s approval, we’re ready to begin construction.”
