Huntsville advances plans for new Westmoore Landing housing community

A major new housing development in Huntsville moved forward after a key vote by city leaders.

City Council approves rezoning for Westmoore Landing

The Huntsville City Council approved the rezoning of nearly 400 acres for Westmoore Landing, a large residential community planned for West Huntsville. The site sits east of Interstate 65 and south of Highway 20 and Interstate 565, placing it near a major transportation corridor. City officials say the approval clears an important step toward future residential growth in the area.

Long-term development planned over decades

The project began taking shape earlier this year when the city annexed roughly 395 acres near the I-65 and I-565 interchange. Land Innovations and Rochford Realty & Construction Co. are developing the community and expect the first residents to move in by 2027. However, developers say the full build-out will likely take between 10 and 20 years as construction progresses in phases.

Community design includes housing, retail, and green space

Westmoore Landing is expected to include up to 3,000 housing units along with commercial and retail spaces. In addition, plans call for green spaces, playgrounds, outdoor event areas, and office uses. Developers say the layout will mirror the mixed-use style of The Village of Providence, creating a walkable neighborhood with residential and commercial options in one area.
