HHA launches Neighborhood Nursing Program with UAH

The Huntsville Housing Authority (HHA) has partnered with the University of Alabama in Huntsville College of Nursing to launch a new Neighborhood Nursing Program. The initiative will provide free health screenings and education to residents in the Calvary Hills and Northwoods communities during the first quarter of 2026.

The program brings healthcare directly into neighborhoods. By doing so, it removes common barriers such as transportation, cost, and limited access to providers. As a result, more residents can receive basic care close to home.

Expanding Access to Preventive Care

HHA designed the program to improve long-term wellness and self-sufficiency for local families. In partnership with UAH nursing faculty and students, the program delivers professional, preventive care in a familiar setting.

“Our mission at HHA is to provide resources that enhance quality of life,” said Antonio McGinnis, Executive Director of the Huntsville Housing Authority. “This partnership allows us to offer critical health services that promote wellness within our communities.”

The screenings are family-friendly and open to adults and seniors. No insurance is required, and all services are provided at no cost.
Services Available to Residents

The Neighborhood Nursing Program focuses on routine health checks and education. These services help residents monitor key health indicators and learn practical wellness tips.

Available services include:

Blood pressure and blood sugar checks

Blood oxygen, height, and weight measurements

Basic health screenings

Health education and wellness guidance

Residents may attend more than one session, allowing for continued monitoring over time.
