Huntsville Hospital announced Monday that it plans to expand emergency care in North Alabama by building two new stand-alone emergency departments.
New Facilities Coming to Hampton Cove and North Huntsville
The hospital is waiting for approval from the State of Alabama to move forward. The proposed emergency centers would serve Hampton Cove and north Huntsville. At the same time, Madison Hospital’s emergency department will grow by six beds. This expansion will increase its capacity by 25%.
Responding to Huntsville’s Rapid Growth
“Huntsville is growing faster than any other part of Alabama,” said Jeff Samz, President and CEO of Huntsville Hospital Health System. “We’ve supported this community’s health for over 130 years. We’re ready to meet today’s needs and prepare for the future.”
Construction Timeline and Cost Estimates
The hospital has sent a letter of intent to the state. It plans to apply for a Certificate of Need later this summer. If approved, design work will wrap up by winter. Construction would then begin in spring 2026. Work at Madison Hospital has already started.
Each new emergency department will cost about $30 million, which includes both construction and equipment. The hospital has not yet shared the exact locations.
