ToggleRibbon cut on major infrastructure project
City leaders gathered Friday to celebrate the substantial completion of the two-year-plus project. While the road is now open, crews will continue minor tasks like painting stripes and finishing surface work. Drivers should remain attentive during these final phases.
A boost for local businesses and residents
City Council President John Seifert said the interchange brings improved access to Town Madison, supporting area businesses and enriching quality of life for locals. Construction began in late 2022, aiming to resolve a long-standing inconvenience for westbound traffic. Prior to this, drivers had to exit nearly two miles early and navigate three traffic lights to reach the development.
Interchange set to support growth
Although originally expected to wrap up by mid-2024, inclement weather extended the timeline, according to city spokesperson Samantha Magnuson. The project was funded through municipal bonds, which Madison aims to pay off within a decade. Mayor Paul Finley emphasized the interchange’s importance to Toyota Field and its role in preparing for future growth, including Redstone Arsenal’s expansion and the potential arrival of Space Command.
The new interchange marks Madison’s third connection to I-565—joining Wall-Triana Highway and County Line Road. With Madison’s population and regional presence continuing to grow, city leaders see this as a crucial step forward in managing traffic and encouraging development.
