GE Appliances is expanding its U.S. operations and creating ripple effects for suppliers nationwide, according to online reports, with facilities in Huntsville, Decatur, and Auburn playing key roles.
Huntsville’s Role in GE’s U.S. Expansion
GE Aerospace in Huntsville contributes high-tech ceramic components that support the company’s broader manufacturing network. Alongside Decatur’s freezer and refrigerator production and Auburn’s 3-D printed engine parts, Huntsville helps power GE Appliances’ reshoring strategy as the company moves washer and dryer production from China to its Louisville Appliance Park.
Supplier Contracts Across the U.S.
The appliance maker announced more than $150 million in new contracts with U.S.-based suppliers, spanning 10 states, including Alabama. Contract values range from $330,000 to $41 million and cover essential segments of the washer and dryer supply chain, from plastics and steel to castings and aluminum.
Boosting Domestic Manufacturing
GE Appliances says these new contracts increase domestic spending on suppliers by 3.3% and support production of combo washers/dryers and front-load washers at Appliance Park, where the company is investing $490 million to retool a plant. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and is expected to create 800 new jobs.
Huntsville in the U.S. Supply Chain
Huntsville is part of a nationwide network of more than 6,500 U.S. suppliers that GE Appliances relies on, a 58% increase since 2019. The city’s high-tech manufacturing capabilities strengthen the company’s domestic footprint while reducing reliance on overseas production.
Broader Reshoring Efforts
These contracts are part of a five-year, $3 billion plan to reshore production, strengthen U.S. manufacturing, and create more than 1,000 jobs. GE Appliances previously announced plans to shift production of refrigerators, gas ranges, and water heaters from China and Mexico to U.S. facilities in Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Connecticut.
