Free 2 Teach celebrates major donation, second-largest in its history

Free 2 Teach, a nonprofit that provides essential supplies to local teachers, recently received an $80,000 donation from Landers McLarty Subaru. This generous gift ranks as the second-largest in the organization’s history.

A major gift to kick off the school year

The donation was announced at the Free 2 Teach store’s opening for the 2025–2026 school year. It came through the Subaru Share the Love campaign, a nationwide effort that has raised over $320 million for community causes in the past 18 years. Because of its strong local impact, Landers McLarty Subaru chose Free 2 Teach as one of its featured nonprofit partners.

Empowering educators and students

“This investment from Subaru and Landers McLarty shows what’s possible when communities rally around teachers,” said Alison Kling, CEO of Free 2 Teach. “It strengthens classrooms and empowers both educators and students.”

During the store’s opening day, 135 teachers shopped for classroom supplies at no cost. This “teacher shopping” model ensures that educators receive the exact items they need. Additionally, Kling noted that the support leads to more joyful, well-equipped learning environments.

Community-driven support

Landers McLarty General Manager Brian Klie credited the donation to the community’s support. “We sold nearly 200 cars to make this gift possible,” he said. “Without the people who came out and supported us, none of this would happen.”

Similarly, Sales Manager Frank Williams described how visiting the store changed his perspective. “We had seen the posts and heard the stories, but seeing it in person made it real,” he explained. “That experience made the choice to support Free 2 Teach an easy one.”

Free 2 Teach continues to serve public school educators in Madison and Limestone counties throughout the year. With help from donors and volunteers, the organization has already provided more than $14.7 million in school supplies. As a result, students from all backgrounds have better access to the tools they need to learn.

To keep expanding its impact, Free 2 Teach encourages community members to get involved—through volunteering, donations, or simply spreading the word.
