Popular women’s clothing and accessory chain Francesca’s is closing all of its stores across the U.S., including nine locations in Alabama.
Clearance Sales and Store Details
Francesca’s is currently offering all clearance items for $15 or less and 30% off sitewide on its website. The company has not yet announced an official date for the final closures.
The Alabama locations include two stores in Birmingham, two in Huntsville, as well as stores in Foley, Leeds, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa.
Company Background and Challenges
Founded in Houston, Texas, in 1999, Francesca’s expanded from a single boutique to more than 460 stores in 45 states and a popular online store. The chain became known for trendy apparel, jewelry, accessories, and gifts, often emphasizing a personalized and unique shopping experience.
The brand previously filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020 and was sold to TerraMa Capital’s affiliate Francesca’s Acquisition LLC for $18 million in 2021. In recent years, vendors raised concerns about unpaid invoices, adding to the company’s challenges.
Legacy and Impact
Over 25 years, Francesca’s built a reputation for free-spirited fashion and lifestyle products. The stores have been a part of major moments in customers’ lives, from celebrations and weddings to graduations. Despite the closure, the brand leaves a lasting mark on women’s fashion retail across Alabama and the nation.
