Madison County plans to break ground this June on a new $13.2 million event center at Ditto Landing in south Huntsville.
County Commission’s Plans
“We’re ready, set to go,” said Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick during a town hall meeting Thursday night. “We’ll stop talking about it and start seeing something come out of the ground down there.” At the County Commission meeting on April 23, officials awarded the construction contract to Lee Builders. Lee Builders, known for its renovation of Joe Davis Stadium, will now handle this new project.
Event Center Features
The event center will occupy a 2.5-acre site. It will transform the 20,000-square-foot State Docks warehouse into a venue with views of the river and bridge. The center will feature space for corporate events, concerts, weddings, and seated dinners. It will hold up to 600 for a seated dinner and 1,100 for an indoor concert, making it larger than the Jackson Center and Mars Music Hall in Huntsville.
Additional Amenities and Plans
The center will include a spacious courtyard for outdoor concerts and room for food trucks during events. There will also be an area for private rentals and dinners. A greenway will be part of the design. Future plans include boat lifts for river traffic to park and attend events. For now, visitors arriving by boat will need to park at the marina and walk. The city of Huntsville is partnering with the county on the project. It has already built the road to the site and plans to construct an additional parking lot.
