City of Huntsville moves forward with Maple Hill Cemetery expansion

The City has completed a purchase agreement with DBP, LLC for 1.1 acres of land located on the east side of Maple Hill Cemetery at 1321 McClung Ave. SE.

Supporting long-term cemetery planning

The newly acquired parcel will be incorporated into Maple Hill Cemetery’s long-term expansion plans. While specific development details are still being finalized, the acquisition marks a proactive step in addressing future needs for burial space and cemetery infrastructure.

A historic resting place

Founded in 1818, Maple Hill Cemetery is one of the city’s oldest public burial grounds and has been under City ownership for generations. It received historical recognition from the Alabama Historical Association in 1962.

The cemetery is the final resting place of numerous prominent individuals, including five former U.S. senators and five governors of Alabama, making it a site of both historical and civic significance.
