City greenlights new affordable homes on Kildare Street

The City of Huntsville has approved new funding to support affordable homeownership opportunities in District 2.

Agreements Support New Home Construction

City leaders authorized two agreements with Family Services Center, Inc. (FSC), a certified Community Housing Development Organization. These agreements allow FSC to use federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds to build two three-bedroom homes on Kildare Street.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development provides the HOME funds. As a result, the project supports the City’s broader goal of increasing access to safe, affordable housing for income-qualified families.

Role of Family Services Center

Under the agreements, FSC will oversee construction and manage the eventual sale of the homes. The organization will also ensure the properties meet long-term federal affordability requirements.

By partnering with FSC, the City continues to work with trusted nonprofit developers who focus on stable neighborhoods and sustainable housing solutions.

Building on Previous Investments

In 2025, the City approved a similar agreement with FSC to construct affordable housing on Olson Street. Therefore, the Kildare Street project builds on an established partnership.

City officials say these investments help strengthen neighborhoods while giving more families a chance to achieve homeownership.
