Rick has a calm demeanor. He clearly has a deep understanding of the behavior dynamics of dogs and their humans. He’s helped us work through some key behavioral issues and he continues to follow up on our progress and offer support.

My little Frankie girl got off to a rough start, nearly kicked out of puppy school and several trainers later, I found Rick. As it turns out, I needed the training as much as my puppy. This photo is just the beginning of many more happy days to come. Frankie had lunged, growled, barked and tried to attack Rick's 'puppy', Rick was patient with both of us and after several minutes of correcting Frankie, we were able to walk with our dogs side by side. Since then Frankie has walked with another of Rick's dogs without any reaction at all. I'm so grateful for Rick's knowledge, both of dog and human behavior. Frankie and I are both getting trained and learning to have fun without fear. Thanks Rick! You're the best!

I have appreciated the tools that Rick at Impactful Training has given me to manage our 5 mo old puppy. The methods he has taught me have really helped to make this crazy puppy time more enjoyable. We address many issues at each session and Rick listens carefully and is able to give insight and ideas for each problem area. Rick’s methods are spot on - he really can get in their mind and figure out the why to determine a solution. I’m not going to say it’s “easier” training my dog with Rick, because it is an investment of my time that can be incredibly hard. But I see the dividends each week and know in the end, we’ll have a mannered, happy dog that is a joy to be with.

I thoroughly enjoyed Rick’s intro to scent class. It was a great bonding activity for me and my 9 month old puppy. It was an unexpected way to run off some of his endless energy!

Rick Markum with Impactful Canine Training is your answer to prayer. He speaks DOG!!! After searching online for a trainer we found Rick. He came highly recommended in so many groups. And now I know why. He clearly has a passion for what he does and it shows in his work. He truly is amazing! He is patient not only with your fur baby, but with the owner as well. He explains things in a way that is so easy to understand. He figures out what motivates your dog and tailors the training around that. Rick has helped us with Roxie’s anxiety, basic obedience and socializing with people and other animals. She has come a long way in a short time. You will definitely benefit from his knowledge.

If you're looking for an amazing trainer that is passionate about dogs Rick at Impactful Canine Training is that person. His love for dogs is obvious through his interactions and training techniques. Jasper and I have attended many training classes in the past so we had our basics down, as long as treats were present Jasper performed. Without treats we struggled. Rick has taught me how to phase out treats and make training more enjoyable. He has also worked with Jasper to help him get over his fear of being restrained so we can make our vet visits less stressful. I recently finished Scent Work 101 class with Jasper, which he truly enjoyed. As a search and rescue handler Rick has the knowledge and tips to get the dogs motivated and have fun while they are working. His class was engaging and filled with lots of information. My dog loved it! I cannot recommend Rick enough as a trainer. He has helped me tremendously with training and creating a stronger bond with Jasper.

When you search dog trainers, there are always tons of results. These were some of the reasons why we chose Impactful Canine Training & Solutions with Rick Markum. We needed a trainer who was knowledgeable, adaptable, available, and reasonable. Rick checked all of those boxes. We took a 5 week course that started with engaging our dog. Each week, Rick was able explain the process and reasoning behind that days objective, and he used our own dogs to demonstrate it. We saw Moxie effortlessly doing things we didn’t know she was capable of! He would then work with each handler and their dog meeting them at their level and help them work to that goal. (We had 3 dogs in our class). In addition, Rick said multiple time he only a phone call or text message away if we had questions during the week. Rick helped us see the potential within our own dog and gave us a great foundation to keep building on. You won’t go wrong by reaching out and letting Rick work with you and your canine.
