Breeze Airways, a Utah-based low-cost carrier, will suspend service from Mobile International Airport by January 31, according to an online report.
The airline, the only commercial carrier operating from the downtown Mobile airport, has not provided a timeline for resuming flights. However, it expressed optimism about Mobile’s potential and the surrounding region.

ToggleBreeze Airways’ departure and customer assistance
Flights from Mobile to Orlando and Providence, R.I., began in April 2024.
In its announcement, Breeze assured impacted customers they would receive full refunds or assistance with alternative flights from nearby airports. After January, the airline will continue operations in Alabama exclusively at Huntsville International Airport. From there, it will offer routes to Orlando, Tampa, Las Vegas, and seasonal flights to Los Angeles.
Impact on Mobile Airport and Terminal construction
The decision to suspend service aligns with the ongoing $381 million construction of a five-gate terminal at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley.
In an interview with a media outlet, Andy Wilson, the executive director of the Mobile Airport Authority, referred to the suspension as a “mutual parting.” This pause in service enables road closures, which are necessary to accelerate the terminal’s completion. The new facility will replace the existing two-gate terminal and is expected to open by late 2025 or early 2026.
Future expansion and plans for the new airport
When the terminal is finished, Mobile International Airport will take over commercial operations currently handled by Mobile Regional Airport. Airlines such as American, Delta, and United will begin flying from the downtown location.
City leaders and airport officials believe the upgraded facility will attract more carriers, including Southwest Airlines, and provide travelers with expanded options and more competitive fares.
