Bob Dylan returning to Alabama stage after 30 years

Bob Dylan is returning to the Alabama stage for the first time in nearly 30 years. His 2026 tour focuses on smaller cities, so fans in major markets may need to travel to see him. While the schedule includes a few larger stops like Cleveland and Detroit, most dates center on places such as Waukegan, Spartanburg, Abilene, Shreveport, La Crosse, Rochester, and Sioux Falls.

The tour opens March 21 in Omaha. Dylan will perform at the Dothan Civic Center on April 23—his first show there since 1995. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. CT through tixr.com. Prices were not yet listed, but more information is available at bobdylan.com.

A Career That Continues to Influence

Born Robert Zimmerman, Dylan remains one of music’s defining voices. His catalog features classics like “Like a Rolling Stone,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” and “All Along the Watchtower.” Many artists—from Jimi Hendrix to Adele—have reimagined his songs, which underscores his long-lasting influence.

Throughout his career, Dylan shifted from folk to rock, country, blues, and even jazz. He released his debut album in 1962 and his latest project, Shadow Kingdom, in 2023. In recent years, he has favored keyboards over guitar during live performances. Although now 84, he continues to reinvent his music onstage with new arrangements.

Alabama Ties and the Road Ahead

Dylan’s connection to Alabama runs deep. He recorded Slow Train Coming and Saved at Muscle Shoals Sound, earning a Grammy for “Gotta Serve Somebody.” Those sessions took place at the studio’s former Alabama Avenue location.

He has performed across the state in cities including Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Orange Beach, and Montgomery. A bootleg of his 1993 Huntsville concert still circulates online, offering a glimpse of his earlier tours.

His upcoming stop in Dothan is part of the ongoing Rough and Rowdy Ways Tour, which began in 2021. Dylan’s recent band included guitarists Bob Britt and Doug Lancio and drummer Anton Fig.

His legacy continues to expand with projects like the 2024 biopic A Complete Unknown and this year’s archival release, The Bootleg Series Vol. 18.
