Huntsville is moving forward with the second phase of improvements on Old Big Cove Road, according to online reports.
Phase Two Design Underway
The City of Huntsville is designing upgrades along a 1.5-mile stretch of Old Big Cove Road, from Claudia Drive to Taylor Road. This next phase focuses on expanding the corridor to better serve drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Planned Improvements
The project will include:
Additional travel lanes
Sidewalks and bike lanes
New streetlights along the corridor
Preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, utility adjustments, and eventual construction
Funding and Support
According to online reports, the project is backed by a $24.7 million agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation. The City of Huntsville is contributing $4.94 million from the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to help launch the project.
