Huntsville has entered a funding agreement to begin the first phase of Resolute Way, a key roadway project serving Redstone Arsenal, according to online reports.
Partnership with Alabama Department of Transportation
The City of Huntsville has partnered with the Alabama Department of Transportation to move forward on the initial phase of Resolute Way. In collaboration with Redstone Arsenal, modifications to the westbound I-565 Exit 13 ramp at Madison Boulevard will provide direct access to the arsenal’s main entrance at Gate 9. The project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the I-565 and Research Park Boulevard interchange.
Enhancing Safety and Traffic Flow
The project also includes an additional 1-mile weave/merge section along I-565 eastbound from Madison Boulevard to SR-255/Research Boulevard. This upgrade is designed to enhance safety along a heavily trafficked corridor that sees more than 140,000 vehicles per day.
Funding and Local Support
According to online reports, the funding agreement provides $11.5 million for the project. The City of Huntsville is contributing $2.3 million, with the remaining funds provided by the Huntsville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to support regionally significant infrastructure projects.
Mayor Tommy Battle emphasized the importance of the project, noting that with expanding missions at Redstone Arsenal, including U.S. Space Command and the FBI, it is critical for the City to support regional infrastructure improvements to maintain safety and efficiency.
