Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and former Broadway performer Jo Lynn Burks have married in a private ceremony, city officials confirmed.
Private Ceremony Held Last Week
According to online reports, the couple exchanged vows during a small ceremony last week before taking a short honeymoon.
The wedding marks a new chapter for Battle, who has served as Huntsville’s mayor since 2008. His first wife, Eula, died in 2020.
The couple has kept the celebration private, with few details released about the ceremony.
Burks Brings Alabama and Broadway Ties
Burks grew up in North Alabama and graduated from Decatur High School. She later attended the University of Alabama, where she became Miss University of Alabama.
She continued her education at the University of Miami, earning a master’s degree in musical theatre. She also held the title of Miss University of Miami.
Her career includes both education and professional performance. Burks has appeared on Broadway in productions including Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, Hairspray and Mamma Mia.
She has also performed alongside major music acts, including Gladys Knight and The Temptations.
A New Chapter for the Mayor
In addition to her performance career, Burks has worked in higher education. She recently retired from her position as a music professor at Belmont University.
Battle and Burks have now returned to Huntsville following their honeymoon.
