Huntsville named No. 1 again in a major rankings

Huntsville has earned another national honor, taking the top spot on Livability’s 2026 “Top 100 Best Places to Live” list.

Huntsville Ranked No. 1

Livability evaluated more than 2,000 U.S. cities with populations between 75,000 and 500,000. The rankings rely on nearly 100 data points across key categories like economy, housing, amenities and education.

Editors identified Huntsville as the highest-performing city overall based on its strong, well-rounded scores.

Why Huntsville Stands Out

Strong economic growth, affordable housing and quality education helped push Huntsville to the top. The city also scored well in environment and overall cost of living.

Leaders at Livability noted that Huntsville performs consistently across multiple categories, which set it apart from other cities on the list.

Key Highlights

Local attractions played a role in the ranking, including Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment and The Orion Amphitheater.

The city’s connection to NASA and Redstone Arsenal continues to support job growth and innovation.

Major investments from companies like Eli Lilly and Company, Blue Origin and Meta have also strengthened the local economy.

Outdoor destinations such as Monte Sano State Park and Huntsville Botanical Garden add to the city’s appeal.

Alabama Cities on the List

Birmingham also earned a spot in the top 10, ranking No. 6.

The rankings highlight continued growth across Alabama, with Huntsville leading the way in attracting new residents and investment.
