Huntsville is addressing downtown parking challenges with a new technology partnership aimed at improving access and efficiency.
Huntsville launches ParkZen parking app partnership
The Huntsville City Council approved an agreement with ParkZen to introduce a smart parking app for city-owned garages and surface lots. The city will deploy the system to improve parking access as downtown traffic increases.
In addition, the platform will support real-time updates on space availability.
App provides real-time parking information
ParkZen uses mobile technology to show drivers open parking spaces. As a result, users can decide where to park before they arrive downtown.
The app also helps drivers locate their vehicles. It allows users to report issues directly from their phones.
City officials expect the system to reduce congestion. It should also cut down time spent circling for parking.
City rollout planned for summer expansion
The city will roll out ParkZen this summer. It will integrate the system into six parking garages and four surface lots.
Furthermore, officials may expand the program to on-street parking in the future.
The city also encourages residents and visitors to download the app. Adoption will improve accuracy because the system relies on user participation.
Officials highlight efficiency and convenience
“This partnership improves the parking experience for everyone downtown,” said Quisha Bryant, Director of Parking and Public Transportation. She added that real-time data will help drivers spend less time searching for parking.
Overall, the initiative supports Huntsville’s efforts to modernize downtown infrastructure.
