Downtown Huntsville is getting a new Japanese dining destination with the opening of Ozu on November 5. The restaurant will specialize in sushi and omakase, a Japanese dining style that lets the chef choose and prepare a meal for guests.
Ozu will take over the former Phat Sammy’s location at 104 Jefferson St. S., adding another dining option to the downtown area.
New Japanese Restaurant Opens on Jefferson Street
Ozu is scheduled to open November 5, with hours extending into the late evening and early morning. The restaurant will operate Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Its downtown location places it along Jefferson Street, within Huntsville’s growing mix of restaurants and local destinations. With a focus on sushi and chef-selected meals, Ozu will offer diners another way to explore Japanese cuisine in the city.
What Is Omakase?
Omakase translates to “I leave it up to you” or “chef’s choice.” In this Japanese dining style, guests entrust the chef to select the dishes served, allowing the meal to be guided by the chef’s expertise and choices.
Rather than choosing every dish from a menu, diners experience a selection curated by the chef. Omakase is often associated with sushi and gives chefs the opportunity to showcase their approach to ingredients and preparation.
