Huntsville-based Holtz Leather Co. is preparing for a new chapter with plans to open a retail location inside a renovated former church on Meridian Street.
Holtz Leather is moving into a new space
The family-owned leather goods company plans to operate from 1224 Meridian St. N. in Huntsville. The building, a former church, is being renovated and adapted for the company’s needs.
An opening date has not yet been announced.
Holtz Leather has become a familiar name in Huntsville’s retail community, offering handcrafted leather products and other goods made with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship.
A family business built from the ground up
Holtz Leather was founded by husband-and-wife team Coleen and Ford Holtz after the family went through a difficult period that included the loss of a previous business and home.
The company began in 2014 with a small Etsy experiment before the family shifted its focus toward leather goods. Working from their basement, they taught themselves the skills needed to make and sew leather products as the business grew.
By 2016, the company had expanded into a dedicated production facility. Its first retail store followed in 2017.
The brand continues to expand
Holtz Leather has since grown beyond leather goods, adding products such as handcrafted wood items and pottery. The family also opened a candle bar and pottery experience retail store, giving visitors opportunities to create their own items.
The company opened a second retail location in Madison in 2022.
Its upcoming Meridian Street location will add another Huntsville destination for Holtz Leather products while continuing the family’s long-running connection to the local community. An opening date for the new store is still to be announced.
