Madison County Schools plans to purchase 272 acres near Hazel Green and Toney as the district prepares for continued growth and future school construction.
Where is the new property?
The property sits near Pulaski Pike and Patterson Lane, south of Grimwood Road and west of Murphy Hill Road. The Madison County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase.
The district currently serves more than 20,500 students across 31 campuses. Continued population growth has increased the need for additional space and long-term planning.
What could the district build?
School officials are still developing plans for the property. However, the current vision could include an elementary school, middle school, high school, and district office on one campus.
The district office could also help address a long-standing space issue. Moving district operations from the current Central Office could create more room at the Madison County Career Technical Center for expanded programs and services.
A major investment for future growth
The property would give Madison County Schools significant room to accommodate future enrollment. For comparison, the existing Hazel Green school campus covers about 189 acres and includes Hazel Green Elementary and Hazel Green High School. A new Hazel Green Middle School is also scheduled to open in August 2027.
According to school officials, the land purchase represents an early step in planning for the district’s long-term needs. More details about the potential campus will emerge as the school system develops its plans for the property.
