Drivers in North Huntsville will need to plan for detours as a section of Mastin Lake Road closes for several weeks.
Mastin Lake Road is closed beneath the overpass
The Alabama Department of Transportation has closed Mastin Lake Road beneath the new North Memorial Parkway overpass while crews complete construction.
According to online reports, the closure began after the morning rush and will remain in place for several weeks.
During the project, drivers can only make right-in, right-out turns. Through traffic is not permitted at the intersection.
What drivers should expect
The temporary traffic pattern affects vehicles traveling through the Mastin Lake Road and North Memorial Parkway area.
Motorists should expect detours and allow extra travel time, especially during peak commuting hours.
ALDOT says the restrictions are necessary so crews can complete paving work and prepare the new parkway lanes for traffic.
When will the road reopen?
The intersection is expected to reopen fully in mid-October.
Once construction is complete, drivers will have access to the newly paved roadway and the new North Memorial Parkway lanes in both directions.
Until then, anyone traveling through North Huntsville should follow posted detour signs and use alternate routes when possible.
