A Huntsville native is bringing an award-winning independent film to streaming audiences nationwide, according to online reports.
Huntsville Filmmaker Debuts Feature on Streaming Platforms
Allison Moy Hayhurst, a Huntsville native and University of Alabama graduate, recently released her debut feature film, And Through The Portal We Go, on streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video and Relay.
The film gained attention during its 2025 screening at the Southern Fried Film Festival in Huntsville, where organizers reported an almost sold-out audience. The screening marked a major hometown moment for Hayhurst, whose work spans film, theater, and production through Evening Squire Productions.
Film Earns Recognition on Festival Circuit
The independent feature blends dark comedy, fantasy, and satire. The story follows three cult members attempting to reach transcendence through a mysterious portal, only to become trapped reliving the same day repeatedly.
The film appeared at several festivals across the country, including the Phoenix Film Festival, Mystic Film Festival, and Queens World Film Festival. It also earned multiple honors, including Best Narrative Feature awards at the Fisheye Film Festival and Broad Street Film Festival.
In addition, Taylor Dalton Curtis received a Best Actor award at the film’s premiere during the Gig Harbor Film Festival.
Film Explores Themes of Identity and Connection
Award-winning filmmaker Mike Hayhurst directed the project, which explores themes of faith, friendship, and belonging. Critics praised the film’s mix of absurd humor and emotional storytelling.
The Alabama Take described the movie as a story that examines “what keeps us from being our best selves” while balancing comedy with deeper reflection.
