Huntsville now has a new indoor pickleball complex where players of all ages and skill levels can gather, learn, and compete.
The Picklr Brings Courts, Coaching, and Community
The Picklr recently opened on University Drive near the Research Park interchange. The facility offers courts, leagues, tournaments, and coaching for both beginners and advanced players.
Club Coordinator Chase Spitzer said, “We’ve already welcomed hundreds of people. Courts are full, the pro shop is busy, and our pros are teaching newcomers. It’s amazing to see the community supporting us from the very first hours of our grand opening.”
In addition to recreation, the club provides a social space for networking and meeting fellow enthusiasts. Members can join leagues, play in tournaments, and even access AI coaching tools.
Founder Memberships and Benefits
The Picklr offers a special Founder Membership program. For just $1, early members can secure discounted monthly or annual rates. Benefits include:
Unlimited open play and competitive play
League and tournament access
Court reservations up to seven days in advance

Officials note that memberships help players lock in benefits while supporting the growth of pickleball locally.
A Vision Born from Passion
The Picklr was inspired by founder Jorge Barragan’s experience discovering pickleball in 2016. After seeing teenagers play at high speed while dozens waited to join, he realized the sport would grow rapidly.
Barragan and co-founder Austin Wood decided to create a dedicated indoor facility in Huntsville to meet demand. Since opening their first location in Uintah, The Picklr has partnered with Pickleball Inc., Super Bowl Champion Drew Brees, and expanded to over 500 locations worldwide.
Barragan said, “Pickleball connects people of all ages. Our mission is to keep improving the experience and growing the sport here in North Alabama.”
