UAH’s Senior Development Officer honored with 2025 Lamplighter Award from Alabama League for Nursing

Dr. Helen Lien, senior development officer for the College of Nursing at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to nursing education and community health.

Honored with the 2025 Lamplighter Award

Lien received the 2025 Lamplighter Award from the Alabama League for Nursing, an honor recognizing individuals who demonstrate exemplary performance in the nursing profession and make substantial contributions to society. She was nominated by Dr. Karen Frith, dean of UAH’s College of Nursing.

Advancing nursing education and community health

Throughout her career at UAH, Lien has supported the College of Nursing through fundraising, program development, and collaborative initiatives. Her work has helped the college achieve a 100% first-time NCLEX pass rate for two consecutive years and foster programs addressing regional health disparities, including the Neighborhood Nursing initiative providing onsite screenings and preventive care in underserved communities.

Commitment to community impact

Beyond administrative and development work, Lien’s advocacy for nursing stems from personal experience and a deep appreciation for the profession’s life-saving impact. She continues to strengthen partnerships between UAH, local organizations, and healthcare networks to enhance health equity and provide practical learning opportunities for nursing students, ensuring both educational excellence and meaningful community impact.
