Huntsville Hospital tops out $150M Madison Street Tower expansion

The vertical expansion of Huntsville Hospital’s Madison Street Tower has reached a major milestone, according to online reports.

Project Scope and Features

The $150 million, five-story, 154,000-square-foot expansion will add 120 patient beds, a cardiothoracic intensive care unit, a neuro intensive care unit for neurosurgical and stroke patients, three new floors of acute medical space, and an upgraded emergency department vehicle entrance.

Additionally, 70 existing rooms will be converted from double to single occupancy, bringing total hospital capacity to 931 beds, up from 881.

Construction and Timeline

Robins & Morton, which originally built the Madison Street Tower in 2006, is serving as general contractor, with Chapman Sisson Architects leading design. According to online reports, the project is expected to be completed in 2027, providing expanded healthcare services to the Huntsville community.

Future Hospital Plans

Huntsville Hospital is also planning further expansions, including a $50 million emergency room and imaging center near North Memorial Parkway and the Northern Bypass.

State approval is being sought for two additional freestanding emergency departments, one in north Huntsville and another in Hampton Cove, along with an increase of six beds in the existing Madison Hospital emergency department, raising capacity by 25%.
