TogglePart of broader company strategy
Parent company Dollar General confirmed the upcoming closure as part of its broader business optimization efforts during the first quarter of 2025. This is one of many planned store closures across the country.
Dozens of closures announced nationwide
According to Dollar General’s fourth quarter earnings report, the retailer will shut down 96 Dollar General stores and 45 pOpshelf locations in Q1 2025. Additionally, six pOpshelf locations will be converted into Dollar General stores, as reported by USA TODAY. CEO Todd Vasos noted that, while the closures represent less than 1% of the company’s total store base, the move is aimed at better serving customers and communities.
Growth continues despite cutbacks
Despite the closures, Dollar General plans to open 575 new stores in 2025, signaling continued expansion in select markets. The company also made headlines last year after removing self-checkout stations from 300 stores experiencing high levels of theft and merchandise loss. Customers affected by the Airport Road pOpshelf closure are encouraged to visit other nearby locations.
