Huntsville plans to refurbish historic Goldsmith-Schiffman Field

Huntsville’s historic Goldsmith-Schiffman Field is set for a significant update. The City of Huntsville has approved a contract with Foresite Group to lead the design work for the Goldsmith-Schiffman Park Development project. This development will focus on civil engineering and landscape architecture, aiming to revitalize the field while maintaining its historical significance.

A Glimpse into Goldsmith-Schiffman Field’s History

Originally opened in 1934 as a high school football stadium, Goldsmith-Schiffman Field is now known for hosting flag football games and being home to its iconic stone wall. Over the years, the field has become a beloved part of the community, offering a space for recreation and sports.

Exciting Plans for the Park’s Future

The new park plans include installing pickleball courts, a lawn large enough for two flag football fields, a modern concession and restroom building, and a playground. While the stone wall will remain intact, it will undergo a structural evaluation to ensure its preservation for future generations.

A Word from Huntsville Parks & Recreation Director

Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett highlighted the field’s importance to Huntsville’s sports history and expressed excitement about the project’s potential to shape the park’s future and create new opportunities for the community.
