ToggleMigration Drives Huntsville’s Growth
Domestic migration played the biggest role in Huntsville’s population increase. More than 10,000 people moved to the area from other parts of the U.S., making up 76% of its total growth. The metro also welcomed 1,000 to 2,000 international residents. Unlike many Alabama metros, Huntsville saw a natural population gain, with more births than deaths.

While Daphne-Fairhope-Foley had a higher percentage growth at 3%, Huntsville added the most people. The Auburn-Opelika metro followed in third, growing by 1.7%. Every metro in Alabama gained residents in 2024. Birmingham recorded its largest non-census year population increase since 2011.
A Decade of Steady Expansion
Huntsville has grown by 48,000 residents since 2020, a 10% increase in just four years. As a key hub for technology, aerospace, and innovation, it continues to attract new residents. This sustained growth fuels the economy and strengthens Huntsville’s role as one of the South’s most dynamic cities.
