ToggleAuditorium Transformation and New Theater Space
One of the major highlights of the project is the transformation of the former Grissom High School auditorium into an intimate 611-seat theater. This will include a new lobby and extensive back-of-house improvements to accommodate a range of performances and events. The work aims to create a versatile and inviting space for the community.
Expanded Event and Recreational Facilities
In addition to the theater, a 300-seat event center will be constructed on the former school’s lunchroom site, providing a venue for gatherings and activities. The project will also renovate two gymnasiums, improve exterior landscaping, and install new lighting, creating a more welcoming environment for visitors. Special populations will benefit from a permanent home for their activities within the recreational facilities.
Completion Timeline and Project Partners
The $31.3 million project, designed by KPS Group of Huntsville and managed by Fite Building Company of Decatur, is expected to bring the complex into full ADA compliance. Construction is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026, marking the final step in revitalizing the Sandra Moon Community Complex.
