“This is a bittersweet moment, but one we expected,” Mayor Tommy Battle said. “The former City Hall was outdated, but its site will soon be part of Big Spring Park East, offering new public amenities.”
Future plans for the site
The City has revealed its master plan for the location. Construction will start after demolition and debris removal.
Months of preparation
Crews spent months preparing for demolition. They completed abatement, disconnected utilities, and removed copper, windows, and other materials. Only the building’s shell remained when demolition started.
Britt Demolition and Recycling, Inc. received the contract in November. The project must be finished by June.
