Several North Alabama high school athletes received top recognition following the release of statewide basketball honors.
Six local athletes earn Player of the Year honors
The Alabama Sports Writers Association named six North Alabama basketball players as “Player of the Year” across multiple classifications.
The awards highlight standout performances during the high school basketball season.
Boys players recognized across classifications
Two male athletes earned top honors in their respective classes. Huntsville junior Evan Toms received the Class 7A Player of the Year award.
Meanwhile, Red Bay sophomore Khalil Luster earned the distinction in Class 2A.
Girls players dominate multiple divisions
Four female athletes from North Alabama also secured Player of the Year titles. Hazel Green senior Kristen Johnson led Class 6A honorees.
In addition, Plainview junior Sawyer Kate Huglan earned the award in Class 4A.
Mars Hill sophomore Belle Hill received recognition in Class 3A. Ider senior Makinley Traylor rounded out the list as the Class 1A Player of the Year.
