New 42-unit affordable housing community approved

Huntsville leaders have approved a new affordable housing development aimed at expanding options for low-income residents, according to online reports.

New 42-Unit Development Approved

The Huntsville City Council approved plans for New Stone Commons earlier this week. The development will include 42 apartment units. It will be located at 3450 Venona Avenue NW in north Huntsville.

City officials say the project will help meet the growing demand for affordable housing. In particular, it will serve qualifying households and residents with limited income.

Funding and City Support

The project will receive support through the federal HOME Investment Partnerships Program–American Rescue Plan, also known as HOME-ARP. The city has committed $2.3 million in grant funding to move the development forward.

In addition, the city’s Community Development Department will partner with the developer. This partnership will ensure the project meets all federal, state, and local requirements. As a result, officials expect a smooth development process.

Expanding Housing Access in Huntsville

Once completed, New Stone Commons will offer long-term, income-restricted rental units. These units will provide stable housing for residents who need more affordable options.

City leaders say projects like this play a key role in improving housing access. Furthermore, they support ongoing efforts to expand quality housing in northwest Huntsville.
