A new assistance program is now available for veterans in North Alabama, offering critical home repairs at no cost, according to online reports.
Habitat for Humanity Launches Veteran Home Repair Program
Habitat for Humanity of the River Valley has officially launched a Veteran Home Repair Program serving Madison, Jackson, and Limestone counties. The initiative provides eligible veterans with free home repairs and accessibility upgrades to help maintain safe and livable housing.
Applications opened on May 26 and are being accepted on a rolling basis until available funding is fully used. All veterans qualify regardless of discharge status, except those with a dishonorable discharge.
Program organizers said the effort follows months of planning and early outreach to identify homeowners in need. Now that the program is active, officials encourage veterans to apply as soon as possible.
Repairs Cover Essential Home Safety and Accessibility Needs
The program includes a wide range of repairs designed to improve home safety and functionality. These services may include HVAC and water heater repairs, exterior maintenance, and structural updates.
In addition, the program covers accessibility improvements such as ramps, doors, and modifications that support aging or disabled veterans. Other eligible work includes windows, gutters, and porch repairs.
As a result, the initiative aims to help veterans remain safely in their homes without facing financial strain from major repairs.
How Veterans Can Apply for Assistance
Veterans in eligible counties can apply online through Habitat for Humanity’s official website or visit the organization’s office in Huntsville during business hours.
Applications will be reviewed continuously until funding is depleted. Therefore, officials recommend applying early to improve the chances of selection.
