DoD Awards nearly $2.7B in contracts, some work in Huntsville

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded nearly $2.7 billion in new contracts to major defense companies, with some work tied to Huntsville, according to online reports.

Boeing Receives Major Aircraft Contract

Boeing secured the largest portion of the funding. The company will continue developing the E-7A reconnaissance aircraft prototype under a contract worth about $2.3 billion. Work on the project is expected to run through August 2032.

In addition, Boeing received roughly $99 million to advance the aircraft’s radar system. Crews will complete work across several locations, including Huntsville, as well as Seattle, Oklahoma City, and Heath, Ohio.

Raytheon Missile Work Includes Huntsville

Raytheon will receive $267 million from the Missile Defense Agency. The contract covers the production of 23 SM-3 Block IB missiles, which are designed to intercept ballistic missiles in space.

Teams will carry out work in Tucson, Arizona, and Huntsville. The project is expected to finish by May 2030. The contract also includes a one-time cost to restart the missile production line.

Additional Army Corps Project Announced

The Department of Defense also awarded a $13.7 million contract through the Army Corps of Engineers. TAI Holdings Inc. will build a 100-foot towboat in Bayou La Batre, Alabama.

The vessel will support the movement of barges and floating equipment. Construction is scheduled for completion by November 2026.
