Hurricane Isaias remnants leave power outages across North Alabama

Cleanup and power restoration efforts are continuing across North Alabama after the remnants of Hurricane Isaias brought rain and severe weather to the region. Emergency management officials reported relatively minor local impacts, though some residents remained without electricity.

Utility crews work to restore power

Several utilities reported outages as crews worked to restore service. In Madison County, Huntsville Utilities reported about 20 active outages affecting nearly 350 customers Saturday afternoon.

North Alabama Electric Cooperative reported roughly two dozen customers without power in Jackson County. In Lawrence County, Joe Wheeler EMC had nearly 1,100 members without electricity Saturday morning, but only a handful remained without service by the latest update.

North Alabama sees limited storm impacts

Emergency management directors from Franklin County to Jackson County told WAFF that the region had experienced relatively minor impacts from the storm.

Although the rain had moved out, crews continued addressing power outages and clearing debris. Statewide, however, the severe weather resulted in two deaths elsewhere in Alabama, according to Gov. Kay Ivey.

Ivey expressed condolences to the families of those who died and thanked workers helping communities recover from the storm.

Officials urge caution during cleanup

Emergency officials are reminding residents to remain alert as cleanup continues. Downed power lines can pose serious hazards, even after severe weather has passed.

Residents should stay away from fallen lines and report them to their local utility company rather than attempting to handle them. Officials continue to emphasize safety as crews work to clear debris and restore electricity across affected areas.
