A national breakfast chain is undergoing a major transition, resulting in the closure of several restaurants across the country, including one in North Alabama. The changes come as ownership shifts and the brand refocuses its business strategy.
Madison Maple Street Biscuit Company Closes
The Maple Street Biscuit Company location in Madison has permanently closed as part of a nationwide restructuring.
Cracker Barrel announced it is selling the Maple Street Biscuit Company brand to Biscuit Belly. While most restaurants will continue operating under new ownership, 16 locations will close instead. The Madison restaurant is among those affected.
Meanwhile, the Maple Street locations in Daphne and Mobile will remain open under the new ownership agreement.
Biscuit Belly Expands Through Acquisition
The acquisition significantly increases Biscuit Belly’s presence across the Southeast.
Once the transition is complete, Biscuit Belly will operate approximately 60 restaurants. The company currently has Alabama locations in Huntsville and Hoover.
The ownership transition is expected to begin in early 2027 and continue over the following 18 to 24 months. Company leaders said they selected locations based on regional markets, existing teams, and the communities they serve.
Cracker Barrel Refocuses on Its Core Brand
Cracker Barrel purchased Maple Street Biscuit Company in 2019 as part of an effort to grow beyond its traditional restaurant concept. However, the breakfast brand represented only a small portion of the company’s overall business.
As a result, Cracker Barrel said the sale allows it to concentrate on its primary brand while improving long-term financial performance.
For North Alabama diners, the Madison closure marks the end of Maple Street Biscuit Company’s local presence, while Huntsville’s Biscuit Belly continues serving customers under its own growing brand.
